Home Groups for LeaderS INTRO

Home Groups are ideally a place where we can regularly gather and do life together. Walking with one another, growing together to look like Christ. This is where our church can grow both deep in a wisdom and understanding of scripture, and also relationship with God and one another. Home Groups also allow us to to have a wide reach out to our community.

I love the model of breaking bread together, praying for one another, and chewing on God's word in our homes. Ideally our Home Groups will be open to both Christians and those exploring the faith who want to connect and grow with more mature believers.

Acts 2:42–47

42 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. 43 A sense of awe came over everyone, and the apostles performed many wonders and signs. 44 All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45 Selling their possessions and goods, they shared with anyone who was in need.

46 With one accord they continued to meet daily in the temple courts and to break bread from house to house, sharing their meals with gladness and sincerity of heart, 47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

WHY Home Groups?

Where do they fit in our ministry vision and philosophy?

Experience, Connect, Influence, Multiply

I see Home Groups fitting specifically in the 2nd and 3rd area of our path: Connect and Influence depending on the focus of the group and stage of spiritual maturity.

Experience is a possibility for those new to the faith and trying out a home group, and learning what it means to personally walk with Christ.

Multiplication is met when the leader begins to personally disciple above and beyond the typical group setting for a set period of time 9-12 months at least, with the intent to "send out" a new group leader and disciple-maker.

What Resources are available for Home Group studies?

The Christian Education team can help with approved content resources, Right Now media is a fantastic resource. I also like the idea of our church every other year going through a study together, for all of us to join in together on the same material. Questions about content? Email info@kodiakcbc.org.

How often should we meet?

We can meet weekly or every other week depending upon group size and stage of life. We have also found for couples who travel frequently meeting once a month with 7-8 couples and families for food, fellowship and prayer. And then guys or girls meeting every other week for breakfast for a discipleship focused investment and also accountability.
